Resolving Winter Skin Issues

It's snowing. She's wrapped up in her coat, hat and shades.

For many of us the cold winter winds are cutting through and causing dryness, sensitivity and perhaps even an awareness of pigmentation concerns. Let’s take a look at the range of solutions on offer for Clinic Sese clients.

Nourish your skin

The best way to protect your skin is from the inside out; improving your skin at the cellular level and boosting collagen production from the inside.

For dehydration and smoothing rough skin hydroboosters such as Profhilo are perfect. Profhilo is a type of hyaluronic acid  that boosts collagen production and draws water in to the skin. This hydrates plumps and smooths crepey skin giving you a fabulous healthy glow. It is injected in to specific points on the face, neck and body and it spreads under the skin without adding volume.

Mesotherapy is an injectable serum and can be administered in different formulas. Sometimes as a hyaluronic acid hydrobooster or as a cocktail of amino acids and hyaluronic acid or a cocktail of amino acids, hyaluronic acid and Botox.

Mesotherapy acts at a deeper level than Profhilo and can be used across all areas of the face including the delicate under eye area. It is administered by a serious of micro-injections under the skin. It is designed to rehydrate and brightening the skin while stimulating collagen and fibroblast production at a cellular level to improve and reduce pigmentation and dramatically  improving skin quality.

Over the course of the winter months, as we lose summer colour, we can become more aware of dark spots and sun damage. Targeted mesotherapy micro-injections are more effective in reducing hyper pigmentation and repairing damage from UV rays than laser treatments.

These treatments visibly defeat the effects of winter and ageing within 24 hours. There is very little if any down time.

Switch to Winter Maintenance

Adjusting your skincare routine in winter is all about protecting your skin barrier. This is the time to think about hydration from within and with effective skincare – in short, drink water and reach for hyaluronic acid and other water grabbing ingredients.

If you use retinol, you might want to reduce the frequency of use and/or the strength of your treatments. Consider replacing it with the Haeckles Earth Marine Water just 2-3 times a week at bedtime. AHA 4% is a mild resurfacing solution packed with antioxidants to feed the skin from natural algae extracts. It is available form the Clinic at just £30. As with all of Haeckels products it is vegan friendly and made locally in Kent.

Despite the cloud cover in the winter months, it is vital to keep applying SPF to your face on a daily basis. SPF isn’t only for skiers or runners, everyone can benefit from the protective, anti-ageing qualities of SPF.

I love the Altruist range as it is cruelty free and another local brand developed by Kent consultant dermatologist Dr Andrew Binny. It is light enough to go under make up it absorbs super quickly with no residue and is available from the clinic in a spray or cream at the unbelievable price of £5.

Tackling Sensitivity

Your skin may feel more sensitive due to changes in the weather, increased heating level in doors dehydrating and irritating the skin.

I recommend the use of use of Haeckels serums. The two favourites here in the clinic include the Algae Plump +B3 (£20) containing ocean expolysaccarides that are three times more effective than hyaluronic acid based serums at attracting and holding water, or the Bio Kelp Ferment (£22), a hydrating serum rich in antioxidants that is particularly effective for sensitive skin promoting healthy cell function. You need very little of either of these for great results.

Pop on the Eco Marine Cream Moisturiser (£48) just a tiny amount, over your serum to seal in the serum and protect the dermal matrix from further dehydration. Don’t forget your lips. Often chapped and dry in Winter. The Haeckels Natural Lip Balm (£16) will keep them supple  smooth and kissable.

If there’s something here that you would like to explore further, drop into the Clinic for Haeckels skincare or Altruist SPF or call us to book your consultation for Profhilo or Mesotherapy treatments.
